Mold on Cured Leaf
Humid conditions during the latter stages of air-curing can lead to the formation of several different types of common molds on burley and dark air-cured tobacco.
There are no safe and effective treatments to remove molds from cured tobacco so prevention is the key. Providing good air movement and ventilation during humid conditions can help reduce mold problems. For more information on molds on cured tobacco see Tobacco Fact Sheet TOB-2-05.
With heavy infestations of mold on cured tobacco there is concern about the potential exposure of workers to airborne mold spores during stripping and baling of the leaf. For more information see the publication: “Protect yourself and your workers from dust and mold."
