Spartan Injury on Tobacco

Spartan Charge is a pre-emergent herbicide used for control of broad leaf weeds in tobacco and other crops.  Tobacco is generally tolerant to this product, but injury is possible particularly if heavy rainfall occurs shortly have application and transplanting.  Treated soil splashing on the leaves can cause speckling.  Uptake from Spartan in the root zone can result in a pucker, "drawstring" effect at the base of young leaves.  Severe burns can result from application of Spartan Charge over the top of planted tobacco, often due to improperly cleaned sprayers.
