Frost Damage

Frost Damage

Frost can cause considerable damage to tobacco, but not as much as the wrong management practices.  Cutting recently damaged tobacco can leave green in the cured leaf producing a highly undesirable product. Tobacco that has suffered frost damage should be left standing in the field until the sun has bleached the damaged leaf (approximately 4 days).  Tobacco may droop and turn a brownish color, but can cure to an acceptable color if managed right.
