Freeze Damage to Tobacco Stems

Freeze Damage to Tobacco Stems

Plants across the Burley Belt have been affected from time to time by freeze damage to different degrees.  A wide range of symptoms can occur.  Common symptoms are dead, water soaked plants, scorched leaves, and a less common, more confusing bruised stem as seen in the plants below.  Plants may experience some setback, but should recover and grow normally with favorable weather as long as the bud is not dead.  A damaged bud will allow ground suckers to develop.
