Forefront/Milestone Injury
Forefront and Milestone are pasture herbicides that contain the active ingredient aminopyralid. Tobacco is extremely sensitive to this growth regulator. Injury has been seen in field treated with the products two full years prior to planting of tobacco. The product passes intact through animals and another avenue for injury has been the application of manure to tobacco fields from animals that had consumed treated forage such as hay or pasture.
Young plant showing signs of aminopyralid injury. In this case only one row out of four was showing symptoms. This crop was set with a four row setter and it was learned that one of the plant droppers had been spraying milestone the day before this was transplanted. Enough residue remained on his hands and/or clothing to result in injury to the transplants he handled.
